Cisco VPN

How to set up the Cisco VPN client.

First, unstuff the file.

Next double-click to run the installer.

Then just drag the VPN 5000 Client to your hard drive.

When done you will have to Restart.

After you are restarted, select VPN 5000 Client and set the RAM to 2000.

Launch VPN 5000 Client.

From the window you will see, select Add.

In the Login Properties;

Login Method is Shared Key.

Login Name is your NT login name.

Primary VPN Server is the server you want to log into (numbers listed at end of doc).

Select Use NAT Transparency Mode.

In Advanced, ensure that only Tunnel IP is selected.

Click OK.

Back at the main screen, with the Configuration selected you have just created, click on Advanced and ensure that Encrypt Passwords is not selected.

When you are ready, select the configuration and click Connect.

The Shared Secret is secret.

Then you will see another login.

Password is your NT password.

Authentication Secret is secret.

You should be logged on now!

Remember to log off when you are done and to quit the program also. If you do not log off and quit your remote connection first, your machine will probably freeze and you will need to reboot. L

As you can see earlier in the email, I have VPNs created for SF and Dallas. Dallas is my default now (it is bolded). You can create them all now if you wish. We will try and inform you as soon as the VPN servers are up and running in the other locations.

Notes.

¥ The Cisco VPN 5000 Client and DAVE have a slight conflict. They are both trying to load at startup and only one of them can grab the TCP/IP stack (or some technical thing like that). What happens is Cisco gets it first.

If you try and launch DAVE you will get a NetBIOS error. Quit DAVE and open the NetBIOS Control Panel and then close it. This loads DAVEÕs NetBIOS. Now launch DAVE and it will work.

So from now on, if you are going to use DAVE, open and close the NetBIOS Control Panel. A simple work around. There is no other. Both companies know the issue.

¥ You will also experience a stall when your computer reaches the desktop of around thirty seconds. This is DAVE and Cisco fighting I think. Nothing is wrong with your computer. That is the way it will startup now.

Good luck and send me in any bug reports. It should work fine.

Cheers
